Declarative Ajax...Now we're talking!
(Uncannily, I've just been asked to give a presentation on real-life uses of XML access languages, at a joint meeting of XML UK and the W3C Office for UK and Ireland, so I'm going to talk on "XForms and XQuery, via REST". I'll try to put some slides and sample code up in advance of that.)
Anyway...the point is that it just shows how busy we are that I completely missed a great post from Duncan Cragg entitled The Right Way to do Ajax is Declaratively! What more can I say? Duncan's own views are, as always, very interesting, and what's more it contains a large number of links that are jumping-off points to lots of other articles and presentations on the subject.
I think it's well worth a look if you haven't already seen it, and is a useful summary of some of the ideas and software that are becoming important.

Hi Mark!
Thanks for the kind words. I hope you remember me as the one asking about the RESTfulness and Turing Completeness of XForms in Steven Pemberton's workshop!?
Now, would you mind commenting on a point I raised in my article, about your talk: "Building Rich, Encapsulated Widgets Using XBL, XForms and SVG"?
I said:
"
Mark Birbeck showed us how to create a Declarative client-side mash of Flickr. OK, there's a tiny bit of script in there, but I'm sure it's unnecessary, as it only does some simple DOM manipulation and event handling. Perhaps it can be replaced somehow, or made part of a generic library.
"
Any thoughts or ideas?
Cheers!
Duncan
I think it's important to reply to all questions in less than a year...
Sorry about the delay Duncan. I just found the post deep down in my inbox! Anyway, there is a declarative solution to this here.
All the best,
Mark
